But a first trip is best savored without rushing. So here are the essentials, our little orientation notebook to discover the island without missing anything that truly matters. Where to unpack
For a first stay, no cheating: the west coast, the Bãi Trường neighborhood, is the ideal base. That's where Cybade Hôtel set up, at the Marina Waterfront, facing the sunset. The beach is a 3-minute walk away, which is to say you'll be there before you've even finished your coffee. We love this spot because it's central: neither too far south nor too far north, equidistant from the island's big highlights.
In practical terms, from our place the Dương Đông night market is 15 minutes away, Sunset Town and its cable car 25, the Bãi Sao beach to the south 30, and the big parks up north 40 to 50 minutes. You roam around without ever feeling like you're spending your day on the road. And when evening comes, the west coast blazes with every sunset, without you having to move an inch.
We chose the west coast for one simple reason: every evening, the sun dips straight ahead of us. It's the kind of show you never grow tired of.
How to get here and get around
Getting to us is simpler than you'd think. Phú Quốc International Airport (PQC) receives direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and several cities across Asia. From there, count on a 15-minute taxi ride to reach the hotel. We can arrange your transfer in advance: you give us your flight number, we handle the rest, and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.
Once here, our tip for tasting true island freedom is the scooter: we can rent you one at the hotel, and the coastal roads are gorgeous. If you'd rather not drive, taxis and Grab cover the whole island without a hitch. It's up to you to strike the balance depending on your mood that day: two wheels for adventure, four wheels for comfort.
The house tip: don't hesitate to ask us for our address book when you arrive. Transfers, park tickets, scooters, snorkeling with a trusted partner: we'll book it all the day before for you, and often at better rates than online.
Three days to start
Three days is the minimum to catch the soul of the island. Day 1, we start gently: the beach in the morning, three minutes from the hotel, then head south in the late afternoon toward Sunset Town. We climb up the Kiss Bridge to watch the sun plunge into the sea; it's very touristy but the view is truly worth the trip. If you're up for it, follow it with a park on the south side for the evening.
Day 2, head to Dương Đông for a brunch and the atmosphere of the town, before setting off north to Vinpearl Safari, the largest semi-wild animal park in Vietnam, where you cross zones of semi-free-roaming animals by bus. We come back via Grand World, the district nicknamed "Venice" that you tour by boat along the canals, very lively at night. Day 3, we head out to sea: a snorkeling boat day with an English-speaking partner and boats of 8 people maximum, far from the crowds, then VinWonders and its big aquarium, the largest amusement park in the country.
Keep in mind that park prices change with the season and promotions, to be checked the day before. As a rough guide for 2026, count on around 950 000 ₫ for an adult ticket at VinWonders and 750 000 ₫ for the Hòn Thơm cable car. We book all of it for you from the front desk, it's simpler and often gentler on the wallet.
When to come
The dry season runs from November to April: calm sea, clear skies, it's the prime time and everyone knows it. If you're after the guaranteed postcard, that's when to set your dates. But keep in mind these are also the months when the island welcomes the most people.
Our real insider tip, the one we whisper to our friends: come in May, and even into June. The climate stays very pleasant and, above all, the tourist spots are almost deserted. You get the beaches, the sunsets and the parks almost to yourself. It's our favorite season to discover the island without sharing it with the whole world.
